Innovation in Shipping (13./14.04.2015)

Summary:

This workshop attempts to bring together leading practitioners and leading experts from the shipping industry – broadly defined – to analyze key dilemmas regarding innovations facing the industry.

Content:

The workshop discusses key innovations in several areas, such as when it comes to the design of the ships themselves – hull-shape, material choices, etc., mechanical components (propulsion, fuel, propellers, etc), coating (and cleaning), as well as innovations in major processes, such as ship financing. Key innovations are discussed not only from the vantage point of ship owning organizations, but also of other key “players”, such as ship yards, equipment manufacturers, ship financers, brokers, classification agencies, etc.

Key learning points:

  • Why are innovations typically so hard to come about in the shipping industry?
  • Key elements of innovations in the shipping industry – with particular focus on “making it happen”.
  • An understanding of major trends in new ship design, and regarding “eco-friendly” engines, etc.
  • An appreciation of key managerial processes in shipping, relating to financing, chartering, etc

Asset Management and Risk Management (04./05.2015)

Content:

The objective of this module is to understand asset management as a systematic process of operating, maintaining and upgrading assets cost-effectively. A critical success factor is to make investments that provide superior returns, through asset-picking, indexed management approaches, leading etc. The module also builds a risk consciousness and awareness into commercial and administrative decisions throughout a bank/financial organisation and helps to master the discipline in real time.

Key learning points:

After this module, the participants will be able to:

  • analyse various asset category markets, evaluate the cycles affecting their turning points and how the assets and liabilities are interrelated, structured and managed
  • critically analyse data to help to choose assets
  • recognise how risk is identified and measured in financial products and services
  • manage the different nature of risk and integrate risk discipline into day to day decision-making and business activities.
